National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2039 - Supplementary Submission
Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee submission
deeply concerned about the future on the scheme.
We have been traversing the disability landscape for the last thirty years as parents of a child with a disability. Over the years there have been many changes and the best thing has been the introduction of the NDIS. It has been life changing going from 4 hours a week respite care and no help with funding therapy to the help Alice receives today.
I believe there has been an emphasis on the participants doing the wrong thing by the NDIS system and therefore their funding should be cut yet I think it is the providers that should be examined more closely.
It has come to my attention recently that some providers are requiring a weeks notice for cancellation of supports due to illness otherwise NDIS is still charged. In the old days 24 hrs was sufficient for this as the worker still had to be paid if their shift was canceled within 24 hrs.
To me this is a very subtle way of defrauding the NDIS. How is any one to know they are going to be sick a week in advance! You can be sure the worker isn’t being paid as so many are classified as casual and the provider will be keeping all that money for themselves! Legislation needs to be put in to place that 24 hrs cancellation is all that is required.

A few things other things could be legislated to save the NDIS millions.
Such as a clear pay grade for workers base upon official qualifications and experience not just a maximum amount that can be charged.
Without fail all potential workers quote the maximum hourly rate whether they have no qualifications and 1 yrs experience versus workers who have diplomas and years of experience.
There are many areas that can be addressed to save the NDIS system money that does not require cutting funding to participants but looking closely at how providers are abusing you for considering our submission
Yours sincerely
