National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2045
Hi,
My name’s and I’m an NDIS participant, disability support worker, and friend to many physically and or cognitively disabled people. I’m writing a submission against the NDIS cuts here as you’ve closed the website early.
I’m terrified of what the proposed cuts will do to the thousands of participants who rely on their funding for urgent care. When participants have lost access to their funding in the past, this has resulted in deaths. The proposed cuts will lead to thousands more deaths that are easily avoided. It will place greater pressure on the families and communities of NDIS participants, who are already under immense pressure to support their disabled loved ones. Many NDIS participants don’t have families and friends who can look after them if they get their funding cut. Many disabled people I have come across online are already contemplating suicide in response to the proposed cuts. I do NOT support the Bill and urge you to not go ahead with the cuts. Disabled people deserve access to a better quality of life, which they have with and through their NDIS funding.
I have had my NDIS plan for two years now. With it, I can now access a dietitian for my disordered eating, and an OT, who helps me with life skills and is currently helping me seek more funding so that I can have a support coordinator and support worker. Having these specialists in my support team has been affirming, validating, immensely relieving and life changing. The dietitian has helped me improve my relationship towards food and my body, which I’ve struggled with for twenty years now. Eating disorders and disordered eating are extremely common for neurodivergent people.
I have been a support worker for the same NDIS participant for six years. In this time we have become extremely close friends. I have played an enormous role in teaching him important skills that his parents, who have three other adult children, cannot do alone. I have provided support work for beautiful indigenous women in the NT, during the AGM for the company that supports them. The AGM was on Country and the women we were caring for were all in wheelchairs. Without our support, they couldn’t have attended, and couldn’t have had a say in decisions and changes that affect them. I’m a support worker to a close friend of mine who’s a wheelchair user, waiting for SDA. They need daily support from their NDIS workers.

The proposed cuts will hinder or remove supports such as those I’ve listed above, as well as many more. Please don’t do this to us.
I ask the committee to consider my lived experience when reviewing this Bill.
