National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2046
To whom it may concern, I am an adult who lives with Autism, ADD, Depression and Anxiety. Currently I am under the NDIS which allows me to access psychology, to have support workers come to keep me company as well as help me cook, clean, garden etc. due to physical long-term injuries which prevent me from doing so myself. Community participation is vital to someone with psychosocial disabilities such as I have. it helps combat isolation and anxiety. I also attend a mental health support Hub twice a week which is one of the only times I socialise due to anxiety. These upcoming changes to the NDIS, while okay on paper, are targeting the wrong people. as a participant, it is not my personal fault that some providers have done the wrong thing. why are we to be punished and stripped of vital funding which allow us to leave the house, actually have a social life, and receive support for what are basic human rights? if these supports are stripped, the effects will be immense to me such as not being motivated to leave the house or bother even getting dressed for the day with no nice people coming to spend time with me or encourage me. this in turn will effect my mental state, with increased depression, anxiety, social isolation and reduced community participation. we kept getting told we don’t contribute to the community - okay so how are we meant to do that without support to do so? sometimes it isn’t as easy as simply trying harder and the fact that politicians tell us every so often that we are a waste of tax payers money and we should go kill ourselves is unacceptable. this also exacerbates self-harm and suicidal behaviours due to the desperation of not being heard or respected. It is not okay to make people feel like this. It is not okay for a politician to decide who is worthy. i also pay rent and other bills for my home: without NDIS funding, I will have yet another burden to the cost of living to pay psychology bills in full. Medicare cannot be expected to foot the bill as they are already under immense pressure from a health system which is collapsing. mental health crisis prevention is abysmal in this state (Victoria). i suffer regular relapses of mental ill health and have waited for over 16 hours in the ED to be told “Sorry, there are no beds and are not likely to be.” Without NDIS support, this will be the story of a lot more people. They too will languish in the ED with mental health nurses in literal tears that they are unable to help. This will increase the suicide rate in this state, which is already a hidden cost. please. remember that psychosocial disabilities are real too and disabling. please don’t leave us to be someone else’s problem. save our ndis!!! a concerned adult participant
