Hello,

My name is Tyarna Groves, I am a qualified Independent Support Worker working with clients living with disabilities in my community and have recently set up a creative space at Frog Swamp Gallery, located in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula in Mount Compass. I have created an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals come to express themselves, develop skills, and build meaningful connections within the community.

I am writing to express my deep concern about the proposed bill outlining changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the significant impact these changes are going to have. The proposed reductions in funding have already caused significant stress and will inevitably lead to reduced participation and the loss of vital opportunities for personal growth and social inclusion, not to mention reduced work options for genuine support workers like myself. As the sole income earner in our family the flow on effect is going to be enormous, putting extra strain on workers, families, communities and in turn, our country. Ultimately resulting in the exact opposite outcome the bill proposes it is trying to resolve. I am deeply concerned that without an option for sole traders like myself to affordably meet registration requirements that I will be out of work and become a burden on my own family and community.

I agree that some changes are needed, but it should not be at the detriment or expense of the very people who the scheme was originally set up to support. People with disabilities have human rights, just like the rest of the population and deserve to maintain their dignity and their ability to choose and control who supports them.

Restricting funding and imposing an unaffordable registration process is unfair. Instead, we need a simpler, affordable registraion process to support a stronger, more effective system that identifies genuine threats, holds the appropriate individuals accountable, and protects the integrity of the industry as a whole.

I have more than 25 years of experience in community and educational environments and I am committed to this work. My passion lies in delivering impactful support to individuals that results in increased personal stability, confidence, and the opportunity to live independent lives. I am incredibly proud of the positive impact that I have had on our community and hope to contintue to work in this field for the long term.

I urge the committee to listen to the voices of those who this bill is going to negatively affect and to please forward your recommendation to offer a simple and affordable registration option for sole traders who are committed to their work. I also please urge you to recommend that funding for social and community participation remain an option so that I can continue to provide a meaningful service at Frog Swamp Gallery where vulnerable people can feel empowered and valued, enhancing their overeall sense of well-being well into the future.
