National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 2157
28 May 2026,
To my valued clients,
RE: Practice update.
The NDIS is facilitating a major reform as you are aware. I acknowledge the concern associated with the uncertainty of what the changes may be for you or your loved one/s. Based on information provided by the Occupational Therapy Association and other sources, significant changes are being implemented to the NDIS and further changes are anticipated. These changes impact on the ongoing viability of Sacred Space: Creation and Therapy Service.
While occupational therapists are currently engaged to provide Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) to support NDIS budget planning, the role of OT extends beyond assessment and includes a professional duty of care across the full therapeutic process. As the NDIS reforms have been unfolding, it has become apparent to me that the reforms appear to contribute to increased complexity and excessive focus on assessment rather than a focus on facilitating a full therapeutic process which supports positive outcomes. There is also a significant lack of information regarding future planning for a sole trader practice such as this continuing operating amidst a cost-of-living crisis.
As such, and with consideration of a range of other factors, I have had to make the difficult decision to cease services for the near future. I shall however be navigating the NDIS reform and determining whether it will be possible with future changes, to maintain professional integrity, sustainability and client- centered care, supporting meaningful therapeutic outcomes. If this seems viable, the service may pivot offering brief assessment and tailored time limited therapeutic programs. If you would like me to keep your contact information and inform you if these programs are offered, please let me know.
During 10-18 June 2026, Sacred Space: Creation and Therapy Service will be based at the Whitsunday Neighborhood Centre, 14-20 Hazelwood Cres, Cannonvale QLD 4802, unless we have made

alternative arrangements e.g. home visits or school visits. Sessions offered during this time will focus on closure and where appropriate referral on to other health care providers.
It has been an honour working together and I sincerely hope that the service provided has provided therapeutic value and authentic support for you or/your loved ones.
If you should have any questions, please let me know. I shall be in touch individually to offer an opportunity to discuss these changes further.
Kind regards,
Amy Youngsmith, Occupational Therapist, Sacred Space: Creation and Therapy Service
