To The Senate Inquiry into the NDIS 2026 Bill

My name is I have previously submitted to the Inquiry a few days ago (submission date 28 May, submission written 27 May).

I wish to make a further point with regards to Section 34A’ Determination reducing funding for groups of supports’ I do so with regard to the Federal Minister’s announcement regarding cuts to all plans that contain community and social participation by twenty (20) percent at a minimum.

Community and social participation (code 04) in the plan is part of a section of the plan entitled ‘core supports’ that are flexible. It contains supports, including but not limited to, getting people out of bed, consumables for incontinence management, approved assistive technology up until $1500, meal preparation and delivery if that has been approved, shopping, cooking and cleaning etc. Funding can be moved around based on circumstances to meet individual needs. The effect and (I hope) unintended consequence of the bill is that the entire category of core supports would be cut by 20 percent. Such a situation is manifestly unsafe as participants would be left without essential every day supports as well as reducing their community supports.

The public have been told that the disability support works have been scrolling in shopping centres ignoring the NDIS participant. That is terrible but the reality is that it happens within the home too. The issue is worker quality and cutting individuals’ plans will not address this issue.
