National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2216
Dear Committee,
I am writing as a carer of two NDIS participants. My main concern is the impact these changes may have on available supports my children need due to increased care burden from dysregulated behavior without adequate strategies or support leading me unable work full-time owning business because child’s needs exceed capacity I cannot meet unsupported stress workload family home which results inability participate community events increasing social isolation loneliness.
Concerning presumption parents responsible substantial care including supervision personal transport emotional behavioral support having disabilities greater than those not disabled love more anything but carers need additional help avoid burnout relentless overwhelming at times.
Reductions funding availability ‘social participation’ quality life participant their primary caregivers participating safely lead time spent alone increase social isolation loneliness.
Changes functional capacity requirements mean people with NDIs standardized form might result some needing assistance missing out particularly autistic high masking.
NDIS can save money targeting participants supporting reform dealing fraud waste poor practice also agree prevent overcharging ensure self-managed plans are not paying services do not remove already accessing benefiting participants saving better ways such targeting fraudulent corrupt businesses.
Plans consistent fair dependent case received annual reviews ensuring meeting participants’ needs earlier when they identify change should involve calling participant explain decision rather formal written correspondence no direct contact reply leaving option thereafter go tribunal. If listened participants and carers less wasted ART legal fees NDIS system would savings as there be disgruntled participants going tribunals.
Ministers sweeping powers to remove supports does consider individual needs circumstances looks like unmet needs reduced quality of life.
Great all disability service providers registered however important independent workers have pathway registering doesn’t cost thousands dollars ensures still choice control own rates negotiating agency fees eliminating amount affordable register limiting supply resulting in reduced choices.
