Concerns regarding cuts to community participation impacting brother with intellectual disability (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2245

Subject: Proposed changes to the NDIS bill 2026

To whom it may concern, I am writing to voice my concerns regarding the proposed decision to cut 50% of funding towards social, civic and community participation outlined in the bill 2026.

This decision is about whether disabled people can participate in Australian society. This directly impacts my brother who has a severe intellectual disability and living in supported living. He relies on basic community access which he really looks forward to and if cut would directly affect inclusion, mental health, isolation and his physical health due to not getting exercise daily which is imperative as he is a diabetic. It will also stop him from leaving the house, access healthcare, maintain friendships with his support network and remain connected to society.

This would definitely undermine the core purpose of the NDIS and what it was intended for. Community participation is not a luxury; it’s how people maintain dignity, relationships and belonging. Pleas
