Concerns over NDIS cuts impacting disabled people (Participant experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2249

Submission on the NDIS bill 2026

I have many friends who are using the NDIS as disabled people in the community. The proposed cuts to the NDIS are causing my friends genuine anxiety. The short time frame for the responses to the bill created is unfair for people who need extra supports and time to be able to respond to these things. I understand that the bill means that many people currently on the scheme would be cut off, potentially 160,000. How do we know that those people are now, magically “able bodied?” I understand there are changes planned regarding permanence issues related to disabilities:

  • What if individuals can’t access services others receive due location or financial constraints? The system should fairly address disability needs not stress lives further, as managing this already difficult; more challenges than non-disabled face daily living. Concerned about loss of support from removal through budget reductions affecting finances and other assistance. If problems with service providers exist—system abuse/overcharging occasional—it’s them targeted rather than disabled persons involved directly; in a rich country like ours targeting those needing help makes it harder to get aid. Sincerely, Susan (Susie) Forster
