National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submitted by a person supporting a person with lived experience of disability I write on behalf of my mother and two siblings regarding our son/brother’s involvement since its inception into their area as part of the NDIS scheme from around year 2014. Our son/brother was diagnosed with intellectual disabilities; thanks largely due to this program we recently received diagnosis ASD Level-2 which explains much more clearly how they present themselves.

- been largely dissipated and for the first time we began to feel he will be supported and be ok.
- Furthermore, sour/son/brother is he happiest versionofhimselfthatwehave seen. Ourbrotherrhassignificant socialandcommunicationdifficultiesbutwiththesupportofofNDIS hisgoalistonowremainlivinginfamilyhome independently.Thisissimple,yetso-importantobjective,andoneIhopeouropolicymakerscanappreciate.
Concerns
- The rate o change being proposed
- Cutbacks tocialcommunityparticipation-anarea our brother hasreallyneededsupport with
- Changestosuppor coordination-a componentNDS thathas really benefited family; hadabsolutely no concept what services needed nor how access them prior sisterbeing suddenly appointed Support Coordinator.Given complexity scheme, someone like brother cannot possibly manage without dedicated support of role it hasbeen difficultfor sistershe hasno intellectual disability)
- The introduction iCAN tool generate funding levels: Brother very good at masking when actually can’t. Fear ICAN assessment rating him higher level than functioning With.Brotherlearntmaskdisability extent capable fooling casual observer such providing vague responses people into thinking coping fine even extent misrepresentingwhatcapable doing or answering ways as if understood asking conversation fact not comprehended any theconversation
- Impact all changes will have onour brotner who doesnot cope well
- Anxiety around electronic plan development. It islike robodebt scheme waiting to happen again.
Conclusion
We do support need made make NDIS sustainable However targeting disabledpeople rather areas money wastage and those dothing wrong thing way go aboutit.
