Impact of NDIS changes on adult daughter with intellectual disability (Participant experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2476

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE NDIS

I have an adult daughter currently under the NDIS. The proposed changes would severely impact her life in respect of being able to lead a healthy lifestyle, being able to go to work and have some form of a social life away from family.

People with intellectual disabilities often do not have the ability to make their own friends in a safe environment, therefore social activities in a supported environment with support workers are crucial to their lives, something that the average person takes for granted.

It would also severely impact my life in terms of being able to participate in casual work as without the NDIS I would not be able to access additional support shifts to have someone to take her and pick her up from work on those occasions.

I do believe the proposed changes have come about because of people that have chosen to rort the system and as a result the people that have followed the rules, and rely on this great initiative will suffer because of it. How is that fair!
