Opposes NDIS Bill changes impacting access to essential supports

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2489

To Whom It May Concern,

I wish to formally express my opposition to the proposed changes contained within the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

As the father of two children who live with significant disabilities and rely on supports funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme, I have serious concerns about the impact these proposed changes may have on participants and families like ours.

While I support measures that improve accountability, sustainability, and fraud prevention within the NDIS, I do not support reforms that may create additional barriers to accessing support, reduce participant choice and control, or make it more difficult for families to obtain the services their children need to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.

I am particularly concerned about:

  • the potential tightening of eligibility requirements;
  • the increased use of automated decision-making processes;
  • reduced flexibility in participant plans and funding;
  • limitations on review and appeal rights; and
  • the risk of participants losing access to essential supports and services.

My family understands firsthand the challenges of caring for children with complex support needs. The NDIS plays a critical role in helping our children access therapies, community participation opportunities, supports, and services that would otherwise be financially out of reach. These supports not only benefit our children but also help sustain our family’s wellbeing and ability to participate in our community.

Any reforms to the NDIS must be developed transparently and in genuine consultation with participants, families, carers, providers, and advocacy organisations. Decisions that affect the lives of people with disability should not be made without meaningful engagement with those who rely on the scheme every day.

I urge the Government and the Senate Committee to reconsider these proposed changes, take broader consultation, and ensure that no participant is disadvantaged by reforms introduced in the name of sustainability.

The NDIS was created to support Australians living with disability to achieve greater independence, inclusion, and quality of life. These principles must remain at the heart of the scheme for current and future generations.

Yours sincerely,
