Dear Committee Members,
I am writing as a family member of a person with disability who relies heavily on the NDIS. Although I am not directly affected by the Scheme myself, I have seen the significant emotional toll that these proposed reforms have already taken. The uncertainty surrounding future supports has contributed to a noticeable decline in my family member’s wellbeing and daily functioning.
I am particularly concerned by the speed with which these reforms are being progressed. The
proposed legislation contains substantial changes affecting eligibility, funding, assessments,
participant rights and support arrangements. Yet participants, families, carers and the broader disability community have been given only a limited opportunity to understand and respond to the proposals.
Good public policy requires meaningful consultation, especially when the reforms affect hundreds of thousands of Australians. A rushed process increases the risk of unintended consequences and
reduces confidence that affected people have been properly heard. I urge the Committee to
recommend a more thorough consultation process before these reforms proceed.
Yours faithfully,
