National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2583

My name is i was born with cerebral palsy and I first got a support worker in 2023

Due to loneliness and isolation I did not want to support worker I thought I was okay on my own and I could do everything myself But then I met my support worker who I will call Lori Not her real name Lori came in and made such a difference in my life lori taught me about boundaries about trust and all the good things that I needed to know I was 49 when I met Lori and in the past people would set down boundaries and I would just walk all over them and say nut stuff it

I’ll do it my way my way never would listen Lori has been my life for three years now and she is the best thing that’s happened to me in a very long time the trust that has been built with Lori I got another support worker i will call Jane

I was burnt by another support worker really badly

Jane came in, and within about 10 minutes i felt secure I felt cared about and I have thrived under lori and Jane

it’s the companionship and the trust and just knowing that I can rely on them and that is huge for me I have been estranged from from my parents for two and a half years Lori got me through that and I couldn’t have got to it without her I don’t think you understand as the law maker yes it’s about money I get it but it’s also about that communication and trust and having that someone coming to see me a few times a week and to be able to help me with things my walking has got really bad and lori and Jane are there to help me I when I fall I don’t let anybody help me up but with Lori and Jane I let them help me because I trust them they maybe my support workers but they mean a hell of a lot to me and if you take away our support workers it will just make things so much worse they’ll be a lot of depression it’s just not worth it it people will end up in nursing homes in hospitals you think you cut your cost cutting but you’re actually not at your playing with people’s lives and it’s really scary

thank you for listening
