National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2612
I am writing as I hold grave concerns the NDIS bill that Labour has proposed will risk participants to become isolated, leave them without needed supports and will place extra stress and burden on families that are already at breaking point. It will remove participant choice and control and strips people with disabilities of their human right to live as independently as they possibly can given their disabilities. We all understand that the system requires overhaul, there is fraud and wastage within however real change needs to be where the government will see the biggest savings that impact the least on participants I would suggest removing self management for participants number 1 priority. As a provider, I hear time and time again, participants and parents using funding for non essential and non NDIS supports. Ive heard of purchases of trampolines, peadeatrician appointments, toys, sensory items, I’ve even heard of 1 person buying a car with self managed funding, if you give people free rain of funding they’ll use it how they want. Get rid of it, there is no reason why people cant use plan management, it still gives choice and control but keeps people accountable and compliant Stop funding key workers for under 9. The biggest waste of money in NDIS history. These keyworkers who are getting paid $193.99/hr to go and play in the sand and read a story book, what is the gain there. How is this building capacity. Is this not what the education and early childhood learning centres are there for? These key workers are the biggest scammers preying on vulnerable parents that need help. OT , speech and psychology is a better option to build capacity Allied health professionals complete bachelors to do this role, why do we need to have over paid pre school teachers to read a story book and finger paint? Lastly, Local area coordinators and early childhood coordinators the partners in the community, they are the biggest waste of space they do nothing, they do not support participants they are pen pushers that get paid by the NDIS, they do not give any support what so ever to participants and are the biggest waste of money. Give each new participant 12 hours of support coordination so they can get real support and help to set up properly from the very beginning. This will help far more than an LAC saying this is your budget find on OT seeyou later speak in 12 months
