Concerns regarding daughter's intellectual disability, vision impairment, and mutism (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 266

“I have grave concerns about the proposed NDIS Amendment Bill in its current form. As a parent and guardian of an adult daughter with both intellectual disability vision impairment and mutism it baffles me how, any of these disabilities can be be treated in isolation they are all significant disabilities that uniquely impact function and are intricately tied together. Though my daughter is not the sum of her disabilities her capacity to exist and live a good life must take into account the wholistic impact of all her disabilities. The current bill will remove her rights, reduces her choice and control, and will harm her and people like her with disability in the community.” Her health and well being her lack of presentation to the hospital system has been a combination of her informal supports and safeguarding possible because of ndis that supports day to day life where functional capacity is impacted. Informal capacity and ongoing resilience, contribution to community are all at risk under the proposed amendment bill.
