Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill

Name: I am a: ☐ Disabled person ✔ Mother and Carer ☐ Clinician / worker ☐ Other: ___________________

My name is , I am a mother and carer for my 3 children that have Autism Spectrum Disorder and are NDIS Participants. I am writing this submission today as I DO NOT SUPPORT the NDIS bill that is currently being pushed through Parliament.

My main concern about this Bill is:

It is a violation of my children’s rights and the rights of all people with a disability. This Bill is disgustingly discriminatory and the Members of Parliament who help write it and Mark Butler should be disgusted with himself and the others that said this was okay. I have serious concerns that this Bill will push families and carers to breaking point even more than they are now and the Labour Party will have blood on their hands.

This Bill will send us back to the dark ages when Disabled people and their families and Carers fell through the cracks with no support or help and majority were institutionalised or they died undignified deaths

This Bill may affect me / people I support because:

Submission 2768

  • This Bill from my understanding will remove Supports that are crucial to my children’s lives, one of my son utilises his Community Participation funding on a regular basis and has been a godsend for him and removing it will make him more reclusive and withdrawn.

  • This bill will put even more pressure on me which is already happening, the use of Parental Responsibility is disgraceful as if having children with Disability is a choice. You already save $100 billion off the back of my free labour as a carer, you cannot have more from someone who is struggling to deal with the unreasonable expectations as mother already but the additional Parental responsibility that this bill will place on me and it I fear will be what deprives my children of the continuing love and support of their mother.

  • This bill also will give unmitigated power to the Minister, as a man who doesn’t have a ramp at the front door of his office for the constituents he supposedly supports, he has no say in who is and isn’t disabled enough for the NDIS.

  • THIS bill also supports using AI to read and create support plans. We already know the damage that participants face on the daily from the NDIS ignoring and not reading the reports and creating consistent and effective plans. The use of AI will make this worse.

One example from my experience (if you can):

Since my son was first on the NDIS in 2013 I have watched the waste, been targeted by Providers who have attempted to steal our funds and had to deal with the ignorance of the staff from the NDIS.

Submission 2768

Every change of government has brought worsening problems, everything that has happened from the excessive rorting of the system and the costing of the system is the failures of the Ministers not the participants that rely on the NDIS.

What I want the committee to understand is:

This Bill is disgraceful and disgusting to the Autism community, it diminishes my children’s disability and our experiences. The suggestions that Autism Spectrum Disorder is a drain on the NDIS system is arrogance wrapped in ignorance.

My children will NOT grow out of their diagnoses of Autism they will just learn to put up with the ableist society and conforming to the expectations of the ignorant.

This Bill is terrifying and I fear for my children and for all people with Disabilities.

My position on this Bill: ☐ I support it ✔ I do not support it ☐ I have serious concerns Because:

This Bill goes against everything in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This Bill should Not under any circumstances be law.
