National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2857
To the CommiƩee Members
I am wriƟng to express my fear over the proposed changes to the NDIS. I have a diagnosis of AuƟsm with level 2 support needs and I am in my late 30’s and live with my Mum. Geƫng funding through the NDIS has been incredible. It has allowed me to be able to do things and contribute to the household in ways I never thought would be possible. I don’t have to rely on my Mum who works full Ɵme, instead she can rely a bit on me. I worry about losing this sort of support that gets me out into the community. As well as being able to contribute to the household, it also enables me to get things that I need for my work as I am self-employed which allows me to contribute to society as well. WriƟng about about this is hard for me and I worry that because I have my own business that I will be seen as not disabled enough to conƟnue on the NDIS. I don’t really have any answers or suggesƟons but I can’t help but think that it seems like when things get hard and spending has to be cut because ‘everyone’ has to make sacrifices, it is those who are already in the most vulnerable posiƟons who end up bearing the brunt in order to spare those who are in a posiƟon of power any discomfort or inconvenience. I would also like to note how difficult wriƟng this has been for me. It is causing a lot of distress and emoƟons that I am not sure how to handle and have had to go away and come back mulƟple Ɵmes, because how do I make anyone reading this understand the turmoil and fear this proposal has caused as well as the guilt and shame over needing help and using tax payers money to obtain said. I’d like to just ask who ever reads this to take a moment to think about how many people who would like to have wriƩen a submission but have been unable to due to thinking about and dwelling on these maƩers being too overwhelming and distressing.
Thank you for your Ɵme
