National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2995

I am a: Family member / supporter of disabled people
My main concern about this Bill is:
I’m worried that this bill will make it harder for disabled people to get the support they need. The system is already confusing and stressful and there isn’t enough adequate support available, I’m concerned that making the administrative process more complicated will harm people and make it more difficult to access necessary supports. When things are too bureaucratic it makes it hard to understand the complexity of life and people’s specific needs and the risk that people will not get the support they need increases.
This Bill may affect me / people I support because:
My family and friends that are disabled already struggle to get adequate support and with less ability to have reviews of their plans it will make it more difficult to adjust their plan and get the support they need. I’m worried certain supports they receive now might also be reduced or taken away because of stricter definitions that don’t take into account people’s unique circumstances. My friends and family that are disabled might have less support because there are treatments “available” even if those treatments aren’t accessible to them financially, or appropriate and safe for them given personal circumstances.
What I want the committee to understand is:
People with disabilities deserve to have good lives and be supported by the community. We need to increase and prioritise funding for caring for one another because when people are cared for and have their needs met they bring so much to the world and others around them. We need the NDIS to be well funded and accessible so that we can empower people to live with dignity.
My position on this Bill:
I do not support it because I think it will make life more difficult for disabled people and make it harder for them to access the support they need and deserve. I think humans are collective beings and we innately want to and should care for all of the people in our community and this bill makes it harder to do that.
