National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

The NDIS is a life changing system that has allowed people to get the support that they need. I am a concerned member of the community with family and friends in disability support roles, in which I know they have always worked hard to care for and find connection with those that they are providing aid for. It is then with great shock and devastation that I find the proposed Bill to be so devoid of care and support for vulnerable people, when this is the nature of what work in the sector should be. Rather, we find the government treating disabled people as numbers, statistics and people that they can save money on! These people are not deemed to have value to a society in which you must be able bodied in order to be productive. I find it hard to believe that the proposed Bill aims to make the NDIS more sustainable by addressing fraud in the system when the changes proposed are short term bandaids like automated systems that make it harder for vulnerable people to gain access to the support they urgently and imperatively need not only to survive but to live a life of quality that everyone deserves. This Bill homogenises and standardises the experiences of disabled people, adds structural hurdles and harsher compliance, narrows assessments and relies on the fact that disabled people have less energy to fight a system that is built against them.

The committee should understand if they go ahead with this proposed Bill people are going to die as a result. I do not support this Bill because I want disabled people to life a self-determined life with the freedom and agency that is a right for everyone.
