Submission to Parliament Regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
I am making this submission with experience working for multiple NDIS service providers as a support worker, therapy assistant, support coordinator and psychosocial recovery coach, as well as experience within the out of home care system for children in Queensland.
I am afraid for our future.
Politicians are talking about saving money and are trying to do this by making cuts to the NDIS now. From what I, and my colleagues can see, this has been done without thought for our future.
In the span of three months, I have personally worked with more than a dozen young children who have had their NDIS funding already removed in preparation for the new Thriving Kids scheme. The problem: Thriving Kids has not started yet, and there has been no communication about how these children can access Thriving Kids when the program does eventually begin.
This is relevant now, because this amendment to the NDIS bill is being put forward to “secure” the NDIS for future generations. Right now, there are children whose brains are developing and are in their prime to learn and grow their capacity so that they do not need as much NDIS funding in the future, if any, to support their independence. These children are being left behind because the government is removing their NDIS funding and not providing any alternative funding to support these children now.
Funding is being removed now with no warning, no explanation and no planning for the future.
We are leaving our disabled children, our most vulnerable population, behind now, to try and fix the future. By doing this, we are just creating more problems.
I ask the government to please take a step back from looking at the future and look at the now. Look at our children who are being left behind and help them now before their future is taken away from thoughtless decisions.
