National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3309
To those that hold the scythe that can take it all
My name is Tiarna Cunial and I am a participant and an art therapist working in the disability sector. This submission will be shorter and less comprehensive than what I would normally produce as engaging with the death and destruction of the NDIS that once was a shining star of Australia and a world leading program, causes me to become ill and has been burning me out, taking my brain and giving me a lobotomy where the ice pick is systemic failure and ableism, and taking my body and coaxing it to fall apart under the chronic stress of being neck deep in the disability community while watching the country turn against us and we turn against each other.
I disagree with the cuts and virtually all the legislative changes, the cuts of years gone by have been killing and harming people in droves, and they are nothing compared to what is coming. This will harm disabled people and their loved ones. This will harm the workforce. This will harm the economy and increase unemployment significantly. The NDIS returns more than it spends back to the Australian economy. Cutting it is cutting one’s nose off to spite one’s face. The level of unchecked power these changes will give the government and successive governments as well as individual agency employees, is beyond inappropriate, it’s dystopian
I fear for my own future personally and professionally, I fear for my friends, I fear for my community, I fear for Australia
I am trying to prepare myself for a world where all my supports that I need are limited significantly or gone, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to become undisabled enough to not need support by the time the changes roll out.
I implore the government to stop this relentless attack on the disability community. We are living people not burdens or numbers on a spreadsheet
Without regards
