Child's NDIS supports at risk due to timeframes (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3404

I am the parent of a 9 year old child with disability and have been navigating the NDIS system since he was approved for funding a year ago. I am also a qualified social worker and policy manager for work.

I believe this bill should be withdrawn as it does not adequately address the care needs of people with disabilities and their carers. Further consultation is needed and a new bill drafted to address the multiple issues with the NDIS

One thing I am concerned about is that a participant’s supports may be paused, reviewed, or affected if they do not respond within required timeframes. Despite being a social worker with a tertiary degree and English as my first language- I find the NDIS so difficult to navigate- let alone if someone had additional challenges.

I am also extremely concerned at the increased use of AI as I do not feel like this is safe yet and could have significant negative consequences for people with disabilities.
