National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3432

NDIS Proposed Bill Changes

Submission 29 May 2026

I am the Mother and Carer of a young adult who was diagnosed with ASD2 when he was a child. He is now 24 years old. This is a PERMANENT LIFELONG disability.

We have been accessing the NDIS on the minimum plan since 2021. It has been life changing for us as it has allowed us to access programs specifically designed to help him in his day to day life. These are programs that would otherwise have been out of our reach.

I have been reading the news around this Bill and the reporting that the system is being “rorted”; it seems as though those with disability are being punished for the actions of a minority of “providers” who have seen how they might make money from the most disadvantaged people in our society. It appears obvious that the way to reign in the NDIS is to find and prosecute those that are making the program cost-prohibitive rather than ruining the lives of those for whom the supports literally make a world of difference.

When we look at the things that Governments choose to spend money on, it becomes clear that ripping money away from the disadvantaged is the easiest option; it is true, they don’t have the powerful lobbyists that the Fossil Fuel industry, the Gambling Lobby the Defence Industry to name a few, have. The recipients of the NDIS are not there to “rip off” the Government or to make a profit from the funding, they just want to live their lives with Dignity.

It is very unclear what is to happen to current recipients if their supports are ripped away from them; there don’t appear to be any alternative options in place. We live in Queensland and I can’t imagine that the LNP Government here has any intention of covering the chasm that will be left as a result of losing the vital supports that whilst inadequate, are better than the alternative of nothing. There are certainly many words being said about the affordability of the NDIS but when we see that fossil fuel companies making literally billions of dollars in profits are being subsidised by the tax payer, I wonder where our humanity has gone? Recent figures released show that Fossil Fuel subsidies have risen rose 9.4% this year (based on the previous year), which is a larger increase than the 7.6% growth of the NDIS (https://australiainstitute.org.au/report/fossil-fuel-subsidies-in-australia-2026/). When you consider that these companies then pay their shareholders from their profits, this effectively means that taxpayers are subsiding Shareholders. We live in an Upside Down World.

The NDIS provides a lifeline for many people with disability and the slated changes will destroy everything it was meant to be. I beg you to reconsider this disastrous bill and make different choices as to where government money is invested. People with Disability need this funding, Shareholders don’t.

Thank you.
