deeply concerned about this issue.

Dear Committee Members,

I am writing as a friend of a person with disability who works in the disability sector as a Support Coordinator for a small, ethical business. Over recent weeks I have observed the significant stress and uncertainty that the proposed reforms have caused. The effect on their wellbeing and level of functioning has been both visible and concerning.

One aspect of the reforms that particularly concerns me is the potential impact on support coordination and participant-directed supports. My friend is able to participate in the workforce because of the supports currently available through the NDIS framework. If support coordination is reduced or fundamentally changed, there is a real risk that they could lose both the supports that enable them to work and the employment that provides them with independence, purpose and financial security.

These reforms should be assessed not only in terms of immediate budget savings but also in terms of their impact on workforce participation and economic inclusion. Policies that reduce the ability of people with disability to work ultimately create broader social and economic costs. I urge the Committee to carefully consider the employment consequences of these proposed changes.

Yours faithfully,

Newtown NSW
