National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3705
Hello,
My name is . My younger brother was born with severe disabilities and needs 24/7 care and has since birth. I have been his secondary carer for most of my life and my parents are also now in their mid 60s and still having to do around the clock care. I - work in childcare with many children with additional needs attending the centre. Several of my close friends also have physical disabilities and are ambulatory wheelchair users. I also work in disability social support for families and siblings with disabilities. As you can see many areas of my life are connected to people with disabilities. People I care greatly about, and you should too! I oppose the new bill and the cuts that will be made to the NDIS.. I am gravely concerned by the new proposed bill and how many disabled people will lose support and agency putting them at greater risk of illness, mistreatment/abuse and condition deterioration. My main concerns are the loss or reduction of support taking away disabled peoples right and agency to choose who touches their body and assists them with day to day living in their home. The increase in harm that will come as a lack of adequate support or support that will be greatly reduced after the cuts are made. This will lead to further health complications for people with disabilities and our hospitals that are already stretched thin. I am concerned about how disabled people are going to be forced to no longer participate in community once again due to lack of support and funding. It is offensive to imply that people with disabilities should not have the same rights to socialise with friends whenever they wish with access to the right support and assistive tool to allow them to do so. It is discrimination, plain and simple. These cuts will also lead to lack of early intervention and family support for parents of children with disabilities putting further stress on families in an already unstable economic time. Speaking of the economy, we know from the 2024 studies that the NDIS actually makes money, it is the corrupt providers that are the problem. As it stands, nothing good will come from these NDIS cuts, everyone will suffer, not just people with disabilities. I implore you to reconsider the bill and make changes that will actually help the disabled community for we will all be disabled someday whether through age or injury. An investment in NDIS is an investment in everyone’s future.
Sincerely, -
