National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3709
Submission on the NDIS Amendment Bill
Name:
I am a: Family member and friend of people with disability
My main concerns about this Bill are:
- Increased scrutiny, surveillance and administrative burden placed on people with disability
- Reduction in human support through NDIA for people with diverse and complex needs living with disability
- The “Non-contactable” and participant engagement rules proposed will put people experiencing extended periods of vulnerability at risk of losing access to their life-sustaining supports
This Bill may affect people I support because:
In particular, the ‘non-contactable’ and participant engagement rules proposed could mean a participant’s supports may be paused, reviewed, or affected if they do not respond within required timeframes.
This could apply in situations where a person is:
- in hospital
- experiencing a mental health crisis
- unable to communicate due to disability
- without support to manage communication
- experiencing housing instability or other crisis
What I want the committee to understand is:
If there are cuts to the NDIS, which are done by tightening eligibility and capping or restricting supports, people with disability will lose access to what they need to live safe, ordinary lives and participate in our communities.
It is important to me that people with disability can live dignified lives as valued members of society.
I do not support this Bill, because it will have negative consequences for people with disability in my community.
I ask that the Government withdraw this Bill.
