National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3710
Hello there.
My name is . I have been on the NDIS since it rolled out nationally, and I was fully reliant on support workers for years. I have struggled to access adequate support on the NDIS that didn’t involve support workers, and I currently have to use an outdated, broken wheelchair. Despite overwhelming evidence, the NDIS didn’t believe I needed assistance with my mobility. I could do so much with the right support - not support workers or being forced to be trapped in a house, but with flexible supports that allow me to live independently.
But the NDIS would rather fund one support worker for multiple people than make sure that each of those people has the support they need to thrive.
I have friends who are blind and are currently fighting the NDIS to prove they are blind. I repeat, there are blind people not being given access to support because the NDIS doubts whether they are really blind. My dear friend is currently under investigation for fraud because she tried to get a new wheelchair. She is bed-bound, has overwhelming evidence and still got kicked off the scheme. Now she has no support and is dependent on her parents in her 20s.
I am terrified for myself and every other disabled person in this country. Without the NDIS, so many people will be left with no support. Some people may not have a home anymore. Many capable, strong, talented people will become housebound and will live in 24/7 pain. I know people who, without NDIS supports, are very likely to die. I am so afraid.
I am also autistic, and I have seen several friends who are also autistic have their funding cut and end up homeless, experience autistic regression or give up all hope of ever living independently because they don’t have access to capacity building.
These are real people’s lives you’re messing with. Please, please remember this. The NDIS isn’t perfect, but it is a godsend for disabled people, and I truly believe that everyone on the NDIS has a reason to be on it.
