National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3711
I am writing this submission as a parent and primary carer to an 11yo child with Neurofibromatosis type 1, ASD level ADHD.
Support from the NDS has enabled my son to access funding that has greatly improved his social skills, physical capabilities as well as his psychosocial functioning.
I have the following concerns about the proposed bill:
- Increasing the administrative and compliance requirements for families already dealing with children with complex needs puts an unnecessary and unsustainable burden on carers, mainly of whom already suffer from burnout.
- The “not contactable” rule does not account for participants who may be experiencing severe mental ill health and psychosocial disability. There needs to be a better way of addressing the issues this clause is seeking to resolve.
- Support needs change as children and young people develop, particularly for therapies such as behaviour support. To avoid the risk of antisocial behaviours in young people, a more flexible and accessible approach to plan reviews is required as a person dvelops. The proposed bill seeks to make this process unnecessarily difficult and inaccessible for the average person.
I ask that the government withdraw this bill.
