Experiences with inadequate support during schooling

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3713

Blue Mountains

Dear Ministers,

As a disabled millennial, I remember how it felt being mainstreamed in schooling with little support for disabled kids at all. Growing up, I remember what it felt like not having my needs met and expected to navigate while everyone practically ignored my individual needs.

Having an able-bodied minister who has the power to define what’s disabled enough for support and what isn’t is unacceptable and ableist. Disabled people’s needs are varied and complex.

There is no standard disability, and cutting over $30 billion from the NDIS hasn’t solved funding mismanagement problems. Disabled people should not pay the price for policy failure and inadequate vetting processes of NDIS providers. That is a responsible government’s job. The onus should not fall on the disabled community to pick up the slack.

Sincerely,
