National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3718
Hi
I’m writing to you because I’m gutted by the impact of the cuts to my husband’s NDIS plan even prior to the Minister’s announcement.
This is a small example of the horrendous potential impacts on people with disabilities’ lives due to the proposed NDIS cuts.
The planned cuts will destroy lives. Lives of people with disability and the lives of their families.
The NDIS supports have been essential to:
- delay decrease of my husband’s functional impairments due to the Multiple Sclerosis and notably kept him able to walk a few steps at home with a walker.
- enabled him to continue being an active member of his community.
- sustained his positive outlook on life
- enabled him to access the community with supports - both human and equipment
- continue in his roles of father and husband.
- enabled me his wife and primary carer to increase my work hours
- provided work for his support workers and allied health professionals
- minimised hospitalisation and medical expenses.
The recent cuts to his plan negatively impacted:
- our collective and individual mental and physical health for our family
- increased considerably medical costs (new breast lesions, decreased kidney function etc)
- significantly increased our costs of supporting my husband’s needs to help meet his basic needs
- forced me to reduce my work hours as the caring requirements increased, while simultaneously having a much greater financial burden

This will mean:
- we will have to use our superannuation to pay for his supports
- we will eventually require social security supports
- ultimately it will cost both the government and our family much more at all levels.
These are false savings and false narratives.
They represent a failure of the government in upholding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities that Australia ratified in 2008.
The negative attitude of the NDIA planner who acted as an “expert “, disregarding professionals’ reports mandated and paid for by the NDIS shows the fallacy of the narrative. She had no understanding of the disability nor the required supports to enable minimal mobility and acted in a very shortsighted way by cutting essential services. Her decisions will cause major harm at the personal, familial and financial levels including increased long term dependence and increased needs and costs.
Please stop the NDIS cuts and address provider issues in a professional manner NOT at the expense of vulnerable people with disabilities and their families.
Thank you
