National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3743
I am an aging parent writing on behalf of her 30 year old son.
has an intellectual impairment and autism. Under current legislation he has met
criteria for both disabilities; they are lifelong and permanent. operates with an innocent childlike capacity - he navigates this world with regular daily support. This is to keep him safe: to assist him making sound decisions and stay out of harm’s way. He is vulnerable and relies on good influences to steer him though each day. His supports are critical. ’s disabilities are known as “hidden disabilities” - very real and very impactful in causing huge deficits in day to day life.
There seems to be some subterfuge around the new bill. It looks like it will create a blanket reduction on supports by blocking expenditure. And as the funding is not actually removed it is not reviewable. Additionally a plan renewal (ie reset) will not be reviewable as it will come under an operation of law (and not a CEO decision) and no new statement of supports as being “approved”. This Bill is unplanned and unorganised and repeats the very policy failure that led to the original creation, which has perpetuated current problems and oversights within the NDIS.
These instant and “open-target” cuts are harmful. I know the scheme needs an overhaul
- but not like this. These changes will remove basic human rights and cause devastating impacts. My son is not just a number!
Please do not pass the NDIS Bill in its current form. It removes rights, reduces choice and control, and will harm people with a disability in my community.
