Concerns about reduced support for a disabled person with progressive disabilities

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3757

To whom it may concern,

I am writing in submission to protest against the proposed changes to the NDIS.

These changes discriminate against disabled people and will further reduce their quality of life.

The changes need to be scrapped and a new proposal developed which will enhance the lives of disabled people.

While I don’t currently access the NDIS, I am a disabled person, and I currently face challenges and discrimination on a regular basis. As a disabled person I am not any less valuable than someone who is able. I deserve reasonable support and accommodations. I am fortunate that my mother (who is 69) is able to provide the support I need but accommodations are an ongoing challenge. Currently I am able to work nine days a fortnight because of my mother’s support. Without it I would have to cut back my hours so that I could perform household tasks that I don’t have pain free time to perform currently.

With the proposed changes to the NDIS and the precedent they would set for making further cuts, where will I be when my mother can no longer support me? As I have progressive disabilities, by then I will have a significantly reduced ability to both work and perform household duties. Without the support I need I would most likely end up taking my own life. Is this the message the government wants to send to disabled people? That they don’t want to support our lives and they would rather we just disappeared? I sincerely hope this is not the case because I believe every person’s life has value.

I urge you to do what you can to come up with a better solution to support disabled people.
