National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3807
To Whom it may concern,
I am writing to convey and add my voice to those that are appalled and dismayed at the proposed cuts to the NDIS. This proposal looks to harm and abandon more than 240,000 people if these proposals and redefinition of terms are put into legislation and law.
So many of us in the community find purpose, meaning and dignity from the NDIS, which frankly even in its current form still does not adequately support everyday Australians who are disabled, under resourced and unseen. This world is hard to navigate and survive even with the best opportunities in life, let alone being a person that has been born into a world that is not made for them. Being differently abled, from physically to mentally to emotionally impacts the way you are able to engage with the world but it does not mean that those interactions and moments are not important and necessary. Having the dignity to live well, independently and within the structure of what the individual decides is something we all are entitled to. Everyone is entitled to determine their own lives and worlds and having resources that enable and facilitate these decisions are essential and life giving. As the government is MEANT to be FOR the people and not running a budget that excludes a significant percentage of the population, it would be beneficial and appropriate that the government acts with ALL citizens in mind. Something that these cuts and changes CLEARLY do NOT do.
The specifics of this legislation are abhorrent- redefining the word ‘permanence’ and ‘remedy’ to remove the impacts of the disability, not just reduce symptoms. Also the possibility of having their support cut if they cannot access a treatment that was deemed a ‘remedy’ ‘regardless of the treatment being geographically or financially available.’ How are these accessible and at the benefit of the everyday person?
This bill also proposes changes that could bring in overreaching ministerial power that can be used to easily and without reason, cut support and finances. The impacts upon families and particularly mothers, will increase the stress and hardship by placing the majority of the responsibility on the parent and will CUT support if its deemed to be HELPING too much by ‘reducing the about of responsibility’ the parent is having over the care of their child. So, the burden is increased while cutting the meagre supports that are currently there. Limiting the amount of plan assessments and even suspension if a participant is non contactable, which has not been defined. A person could easily go into the hospital or become unwell enough that they are somehow unable to be contacted, does that mean they lose the support they obviously need?
This brief and generalised overview of what this legislation proposes is enough to show that these changes will do nothing but harm and undercut the quality of life of people that deserve to live and to live with dignity.

Please do not put these changes through and instead help people live and help people be people, with free will, dreams, the need for fun, adventure and connection. Why won’t we build a better world instead of constantly taking from it.
Please do better,
From a disabled and frustrated Australian and person
