National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3819
I am 18 years old and currently use NDIS supports to help me access the community and attend appointments with my psychologist. These supports are very important to me and help me build confidence, independence and skills for my future.
Being able to access the community helps me stay connected, learn new skills and improve my wellbeing. Seeing my psychologist also helps me manage challenges and continue working towards my goals.
One of my biggest goals is to enter the workforce next year. I want the opportunity to work, become more independent and contribute to the community. To do this successfully, I will need ongoing support to help me build workplace skills, confidence, routines and emotional regulation.
If social, community and capacity building supports are reduced, it would make it much harder for me to reach these goals. Without support, I worry I could become isolated, lose confidence and struggle with my mental health and independence.
These supports are not unnecessary extras. They are what help people like me prepare for adulthood, employment and participation in society. Removing them would not help young people succeed, it would create more barriers.
I ask the government to listen to the experiences of young people with disability and protect the supports that help us build our futures.
