I am writing this email on behalf of and her daughter . I am , Support Worker.
My name is and I reside at .
I am writing to you regarding my deep concern to the 50% cut to social and community participation funding proposed by the NDIS Future Generations Bill, 2026.
I am a mother with a 34 year old daughter, , with Down Syndrome, and one of my greatest joys is seeing my daughter enthusiastically describing what she had learnt and done on any given day. As her mother I see the benefits that social outings in the community with ’s peers brings. Her confidence and her independence in making choices for herself in any given situation, is so essential for her mental and physical wellbeing.
enjoys many different activities that her organisation provides in a safe, flexible,
and supportive environment ie theatre outings, the movies, art/craft, playing games, and cooking. Through these activities is learning new skills, using judgement, and making choices for herself.
By making manageable steps, her access to everyday environments eg cafes, and shops reinforces learning in practical everyday situations.
It teaches decision making skills, and promotes independence.
loves getting dressed up and going to an organised disability disco once a
month, where she dances and sings and socialises with peers around her own age. Being included ensures that has an opportunity to live a valued, respected, and as autonomous a life as possible. The NDIS as it now stands is giving all these opportunities.
If the social and community participation funding is halved, everything that has achieved will start to regress, and her independence, and skills will deteriorate significantly.
I hope that the proposed 50% participation funding cut will not proceed.
