National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3839
To the Committee,
My name is and I am writing to oppose the proposed NDIS Amendment Bill.
I am the aunt of a young boy who is currently an NDIS participant. While I am not his parent, I have watched his family’s journey closely and have seen firsthand the difference NDIS support has made to his life.
Before he received support, many people saw a “naughty kid”. They saw a child who struggled to cope, became overwhelmed easily and often found himself in trouble. What they didn’t see was a child with significant developmental disabilities and unmet needs.
The NDIS changed that.
Through funded assessments, therapies and professional support, his family finally received answers. What once looked like bad behaviour was recognised as disability. What once attracted judgement was met with understanding.
I have watched my nephew go from being excluded and misunderstood to being supported and included. His challenges have not disappeared, but he now has access to therapies, strategies and professionals who are helping him develop skills, participate in his community and reach his potential.
I have also watched how hard his family works every day to support him. The NDIS has not replaced that effort—it has made it possible.
I cannot imagine what would happen if those supports were reduced. Children do not stop needing support because funding is cut. The consequences simply appear elsewhere: in schools, hospitals, mental health services, welfare systems and, too often, later involvement with the justice system.
The NDIS is not just supporting my nephew today. It is investing in the adult he will become tomorrow.
Please protect the supports that help children like my nephew learn, participate, belong and build a better future.
Yours sincerely,
