National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3893
I am an NDIS participant with complex needs following a traumatic incident, and have children on the NDIS. I struggle to manage my 5 children and try and meet my own needs, and we are also in a domestic violence situation with regards to financial, economic and other abuse.
Upon hearing about the proposed changes to the NDIS I became suicidal and presented to my GP and Psychologist. Whilst I am new to NDIS in the past 2-3 years, I would not be hear without its support and my children would not be able to attend school with out NDIS support.
Our plans are not great, and one of my kids plans is not fit for purpose, she was mute and provided speech/OT/Psychology and could not engage with any of those services which is all that was included in her plan. I am still trying to have is amended so she can access any support from her plan.
Two of my children are diagnosed ASD 1 and I am petrified that a computer will kick them out of NDIS on that basis. Both of these children have other complex presentations in addition to ASD1. One is mute, the other has learning disorders and both have school non attendance, one was non-attending on/off for four years. One has been admitted into crisis care twice following suicidal and self harming behaviours. And yet this is ASD1! The label does not fit the disability or the struggle that the child and family faces every day. I am looking after 5 children all with ASD1, ASD 2 and all sorts of other diagnosis and presentations and I am overwhelmed and my own disabilities are not supported properly in my plan yet.
These proposed changes…some are already being implemented. The NDIS called me half way through my 12 month plan, conducted a meeting which they wouldn’t tell me what it was called, finally they called it a check in meeting and told me there would not be a change in my plan as it was only a check in that was 6 months overdue. A few days a later a new plan was issued to me with amendments that are exactly what is proposed in the bill. A 50-60% reduction in the section I use daily and that was shifted to the new category of Support coach with the articulated intent to have that weaned off over the next 3 years.
The NDIS is not reading the medical reports provided and is not providing the supports recommended by the Drs and medical teams. Very distressing.
