Level 2 Autism diagnosis and vital community participation

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3894

To whom it may concern,

My name is , l live in Melbourne and I’m writing to you regarding the NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026.

I have many concerns that his bill is being rushed through parliament without a thought about the affect it will have on its participants. My son , 19, has Level 2 Autism. He relies heavily on community and social participation and finding and keeping a job in his budget. Without this he would not be able to participate or contribute to society. His once-a-month day trips with his group that he has been with since a child is the highlight of his month. Doing supported work and learning independence skills if vital for his future and for his mental health.

Without these supports he would spend his entire life at home possibly in front of a device, he does not make friends and cannot get around without support. I would have to give up work as he cannot be left alone. I already have been working part time since he was born, unable to go back to full time work.

The pressure l think that this will put on people with disabilities and their families will huge. I believe it will put more pressure on the public health system, mental health supports due to a lack of participation and l fear for his future

I would like to see further discussion from the members of parliament who work for us. I would love to hear back from someone if they wish to discuss further with me.

Regards,
