Concerns about access to occupational therapy and support coordination for vulnerable individuals

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3927

Hello

I have a 30 year old daughter who is on the ndis.

I agree that extra safeguards need to be in place to govern support workers and ensure that the ndis funds are being used correctly.

My daughter’s occupational therapist has been very valuable and essential to empowering my daughter to achieve.

Sadly we have been through a long administrative review tribunal process regarding supports needed for my daughter. This was very stressful and I think the government should investigate how much ndia have spent on legal fees. We represented ourselves but were against barristers and lawyers. The money spent on lawyers alone would have paid multiple times over for the tricycle we sought for our daughter.

Now her support worker has sent a demand for unpaid invoices on services never delivered. Leaving vulnerable people to manage their plan without adequate support coordination and occupational therapy support is very risky.

If our daughter did not have us to advocate for her the system would not have worked in her favour.

Please provide mechanisms for good support coordination and occupational therapy for adults and occupational therapy for children available somewhere where it will be fair and accessible for all children even those who don’t have parents who can advocate for them.

I am happy to provide more information.

Regards
