National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3938
To whom it might concern,
I am writing in reference to the recent legislation currently being considered, concerning cuts to funding of the NDIS. I understand that funds may have been misused by a small minority of users but I fear if the proposed bill is passed, many worthy beneficiaries will have their access to vital assistance unfairly curtailed.
I am a mother of a daughter who had a stroke at just 24 which left her with major deficits. Prior to her access to NDIS funds, her father and I were her carers and we have been so grateful for NDIS support as we are elderly and have significant health issues.
Like many others we are anxious that cuts to funding and caps on amounts available will mean less access to services like physio which is necessary to maintain pain levels and mobility. Capping therapy hours also fails to recognise the changing and lifelong nature of disability.
At present our daughter has help with washing, cleaning and many other home jobs which she is not able to manage. She needs transport to medical appointments and everyday community involvement. Without adequate NDIS assistance she will no longer be able to work or participate in normal out of home activities. We are concerned that this will be detrimental not only to her physical but also her mental health.
I cannot emphasise enough the anxiety the possible changes in this bill, if passed, will produce. Those who experience disability have enough to cope with without further legislation which will threaten their independence and ability to participate in life as they deserve.
Please put yourselves in our shoes and in particular, in the shoes of those who need your help.
