National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3974
Dear Community Affairs Administrator
I wish to express my strong concerns regarding the proposed NDIS Amendment Bill 2026 and the significant impact these changes will have on people living with disability, their families, and carers.
The short consultation period imposed does not support meaningful engagement and creates the perception that the voices of people with disability are not genuinely being heard.
This extremely limited timeframe provided for consultation and public response is deeply concerning. Many people with disability already face many barriers accessing information, and participating in the complex legislative changes involved in a consultation processes such as those proposed for the NDIS.
This includes but is not limited to the reduction of between 30% and 50% to “social and community participation supports”. This is particularly alarming.
NDIS social and community access enables me to be able to support and maintain living my daily life in a normal ordinary autonomous way that promotes my independence and safety as well as meaningful inclusion within my community.
These supports are not simply recreational in nature. For many participants, including myself, they are essential for daily living, independence, health, wellbeing, and inclusion within the community.
I as many others currently utilise these supports to attend important and necessary appointments such as therapy and medical appointments which are imperative in managing and supporting my disability. These supports also provide access to exercise and wellbeing activities, every day daily living activities such as complete grocery shopping, manage daily life administration, develop communication and social capacity, and maintain community participation safely with independence and dignity.
Without these supports, many participants will experience increased isolation, reduced independence, and significant deterioration in both physical and mental health.
If the proposed changes NDIS 2026 amendments go ahead I would be unable to safely access the community independently. A reduction in these supports would severely limit my ability to participate in everyday life and would effectively confine me to my home.
The NDIS was established to promote choice, control, dignity, independence, and inclusion for people with disability. These proposed changes appear inconsistent with those principles and risk reversing many of the positive outcomes the disability community has fought for over decades.

I am also concerned that the proposed amendments may reduce opportunities for participants to exercise informed choice and appeal decisions that directly affect their lives and wellbeing. This creates additional stress and uncertainty for individuals and families already navigating complex systems.
People with disability deserve to live with dignity, inclusion, autonomy, and equal opportunity within the Australian community. Any reforms to the NDIS should strengthen these principles, not weaken them.
I respectfully urge the Government to reconsider the proposed cuts and engage in genuine consultation with the disability community before implementing changes that may cause long-term harm to participants and their families.
I strongly oppose the proposed reductions to NDIS supports under the NDIS Amendment Bill 2026.
