Risk of abuse due to mental health service failures

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 3989

Good afternoon,

My name is and I am a current NDIS participant wishing to have my submission put forth for consideration please. In my below submission I had anticipated raising a number of points but time constraints have only allowed me to address 1 point in total today.

My request is that this 1 point is read and taken into consideration in regards to the policy changes to the NDIS.

In the interest of clarity I live with a permanent phycosocial disability of complex ptsd from childhood and adulthood abuse and family violence and accessed the NDIS to deful my dream of living an autonomous life free of abuse.

I had previously explored mental health services and experienced further mental health deterioration through the abuse I received through there services and lack of accountability via receiving government funding independent of the individual participants resulting in a take it or leave it approach comprising of but not limited too:

*non trauma informed care

*pressure to accept a worker led lifestyle In my decision making

*lack of training in the areas of trauma and violence particularly gender appropriate services ( I was constantly pressured to accept males after disclosing childhood abuse to teach me “ not all men are bad “ ) as there was no legislation to stop this raising my concerns resulted in my targeting by management for essentially not being “ a team player “ when raising the issue that predators often position themselves in roles such as mental health workers specifically to gain access to vulnerable people and the pressure to accept workers a client was not comfortable with under the guise of rehabilitation was creating a breeding ground for abusers to offend freely if they wished.

I had my services terminated for raising these concerns.

With the NDIS for the first time in my life I have had the power to protect myself from abuse by choosing who I let into my team of essential supports for my daily living activities and have been stabilising and planning for my future instead of simply surviving the abuse, these proposed changes will take that power away from me and return me to the abuse of the mental health sector or a loss of any service and progress made if I lose access to the NDIS or have reduced funding and my fear is not just for myself but for other vulnerable Australians that will risk their day to day safety and wellbeing as a result of these changes. Please take this into consideration as you review my email submission point below. You may not be able to stop abuse from occurring but you can stop people from being forced to endure it.
