National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 3996
Submission to the Senate inquiry into the NDIS Bill
My name is . I’m writing to express my concerns and disgust at the National Disability Insurance Scheme Ammendment – Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill.
As a payer of huge amounts of tax I’m horrified at the proposed Bill. My mother is disabled, and I know people in the disability community. The bill would snatch away supports from the people who need it most.
The Bill somehow manages to be oppressive, controlling and cruel for disabled Australians, while failing to address the actual cost blow-outs in the scheme – the fraud that we’ve all heard so much about.
Why is that not the focus of any NDIS reform? I’ve grown several successful businesses and I’m aware of the Productivity Commission’s report that shows that for every dollar invested into the NDIS, it returned $2.25 back into local economies. Stripping vulnerable Australians of support that’s been hard won is a terrible move economically and socially.
We know the costs will move into crisis services. Children in child protection, adults back in institutions, and everything in-between costs a lot more than supporting people to live at home and connect with their communities. This modelling hasn’t been done. It looks like our most vulnerable fellow citizen are being used as political footballs. The Bill makes it look as if the federal government is saving money, when in fact they’re just shifting costs onto state crisis services.
Anyone who knows anything about economics knows that modelling all the impacts of major changes is a first step. One that’s been skipped in this case. Anyone in any kind of business knows that these sorts of calculations matter!
Also, there’s no consideration of job losses at a time when people are losing work en masse with the rise of AI tools. The jobs that will be lost are ones that need to be done by actual humans. As a young person in Western Sydney I’m aware of how many jobs the NDIS creates for those around me. And that many of those jobs will be lost or made basically impossible to do because funding will be scarce, people will be in crisis, and those who support them will burn out.
Please do your jobs properly and come up with a Bill that addresses the real cost-drains in the NDIS – The legal loopholes that big registered providers are milking, while abusing and neglecting people with disability. Do your jobs and protect our most disadvantaged, rather than exposing them to way more harm while at the same time ignoring the fraud and corruption in the scheme. Do your jobs and recognise that expenditure to meet the needs of disabled people is a good investment, creates jobs and stimulates economic growth. This proposed legislation is making me more reluctant than ever to pay the huge amounts of tax I currently do.
