National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 4005

My name is and I’m making a submission to the NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026.

I have a 16 year old son, diagnosed in 2012 with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

He has been forced out of the school system since 2020.

We have no family. No support other than NDIS funding. He also has multiple co morbid health conditions on top.

If he loses access to NDIS funding now or in the near future, his journey into adulthood will be extremely grim.

I have had to give up my career and employment and superannuation contributions to care for my son fulltime.

I run two in person support groups VOLUNTARILY in South Australia- one - Welcome All Families, founded in 2022 - a weekly in person social group at my local community centre for neurodivergent children and their families/carers who are forcibly homeschooled.

We can get up to 30 families a week attending, many attend only with supports from their support workers. This would likely need to stop if NDIS funding is cut to my family and other families. Their only social connection, which also offers learning opportunities.

The other group is SASSI Mums- a social meet up group for mothers of autistic children- also as a volunteer, I organise two catch ups each month and have done since 2020. I would not be able to access support work for my son to help support these women, and they also wouldn’t be able to attend without support workers for their children. We have almost 1000 members.

My own son, without therapies or support workers, will not be able to access community or allied health, his level 3 autism and debilitating anxiety would not allow him to leave the house unsupported- he wouldn’t be able to access pathways to employment, or catch public transport unassisted.

I want him to be the best he can be - and leading into adulthood without NDIS funding and support to help him live with the anxiety and autism that rules his life, and ours, Im afraid his future WILL be dire, dull and he will become a recluse at home, on benefits, which Im sure he would be capable of enhancing, encouraging and using the abilities he is developing if he were continued to be supported.

I possibly could return into the work force if he was supported to be more independent and assisted with daily living, he simply cannot look after himself.

He needs full assistance.

He cannot shower himself, cook or prepare food for himself, take medication himself, leave the house by himself, he cannot be left alone.

Please consider the ramifications on him and our family. We are already living on rations, unsupported by the education system and the health system is also failing him, and talking about transitioning him to adult healthcare. He has only recently turned 16.

I will continue giving back to the community of South Australia for as long as I possibly can, but without supports for my son and the hundreds of families I represent, their futures are looking dismal.

I implore you to take our situation into consideration, and please don’t cut my son off the NDIS, please. Please let him have the best chance in life.

Many thanks for your time.
