National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 4032
To the Senate Community Affairs Committee,
I am writing as a parent of a child with disability to express my strong opposition to the proposed NDIS Future Generations Bill and the broader changes being proposed to the NDIS.
Our family has seen firsthand how important the NDIS is in supporting independence, safety, dignity, and participation in the community. While the system is not perfect, it has made a meaningful difference in allowing people with disability to live fuller lives with greater choice and opportunity.
I am deeply concerned that the proposed changes will reduce choice and control, limit access to community participation, and create additional barriers for people who already face significant challenges. These reforms risk undoing years of progress toward inclusion and equal participation in society.
I respectfully urge the Committee to protect the rights of people with disability and ensure the NDIS continues to reflect its original purpose and principles. In particular, I ask the Committee to:
- Reject proposed cuts and any measures that reduce social and community participation.
- Ensure strong rights to review and appeal so participants and families can challenge decisions that affect their lives and wellbeing.
- Protect genuine choice and control, including the ability to choose providers that best meet individual needs, while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
As a mother, I worry that these changes could lead to greater isolation, reduced independence, and increased stress for both participants and their families. Australia should be moving toward greater inclusion and support for people with disability, not away from it.
Please carefully consider these concerns and do not pass the NDIS Future Generations Bill.
