National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 4045

To Whom It May Concern,

Re: Submission Regarding the Proposed Changes to the NDIS

I am writing to express my deep concern about the proposed changes to the NDIS and the devastating impact they will have on my life if they proceed.

I live with a serious chronic illness that has completely changed my life. I am no longer able to drive because of my medical condition and rely heavily on my NDIS supports, especially my community access support, to get to essential appointments and to participate in everyday life.

Without these supports, I would not be able to attend my frequent medical appointments. My health is unpredictable, and I often need to see my doctors at short notice, sometimes three times a week. I also need to collect my prescribed pain medication twice a week to manage my chronic pain. My life now revolves around managing my illness, and these supports are not optional—they are essential.

Just last week alone, I was admitted to or attended hospital three separate times. On one occasion, my NDIS support worker transported me approximately 46 kilometres because I had no other means of getting there. Without that support, I simply would not have been able to access the medical care I needed.

The proposed changes would also severely limit my ability to carry out basic daily activities. I rely on my support workers to help me get to the supermarket to buy food and other necessities. They also enable me to participate in my community by taking me to church, which is an important source of faith, connection, and emotional support. If these supports are reduced or removed, I will lose not only access to essential services but also the ability to remain connected to my community and maintain my mental wellbeing.

These supports allow me to live independently in my own home. Without them, I genuinely fear that I will no longer be able to cope and may have no option but to move into residential care or a nursing home. That is not the future I want, nor do I believe it is the outcome the NDIS was designed to create.

The proposed changes would dramatically reduce my quality of life and place my health at even greater risk. They would not reduce my need for support—they would simply remove the assistance that currently allows me to live with dignity, independence, and safety.

I understand that governments must manage public funding responsibly, but I respectfully ask that you consider the real-life consequences these changes will have for people like me. Please do not remove the supports that enable people with significant disabilities and chronic illnesses to access healthcare, buy food, participate in their communities, and live independently.

Submission 4045

For me, these supports are not a luxury. They are the difference between living independently and losing the ability to manage my daily life.

I respectfully ask that you reconsider these proposed changes and ensure that people with complex support needs continue to receive the assistance they rely on every day.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my submission and for listening to the voices of people whose lives will be directly affected by these decisions.
