National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 4096
My 50 year old son has cerebral palsy and a mild intellectual disability. He has received NDIS funding since it’s inception and it has given him the support he needs and the quality of life he has a right to.
My son is wheelchair bound. He needs carers to get him out of bed, shower and toilet him. Carers prepare meals for him and he requires someone with him when eating due to choking issues. He needs carer support for shopping, cooking, cleaning - all daily activities. He requires a carer to assist with community access. Contrary to Mark Butler’s comment about not having carers take a client to the movies, our son would never enjoy this and other community activities without carer support. He would be house bound. Is this what our Government means by inclusion???
I am 82 and my husband is 86. We can no longer do what we have in the past. We have a wonderful Support Co-ordinator who takes a lot of the administration side of our son’s life off our shoulders and will be absolutely needed when we die.
Please be realistic when cutting NDISD funding. Target the rorters, not people with disabilities. Surely their lives are difficult enough already.
Yours sincerely, Maggie Matheson
