National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 4103
Dear Senate,
My name is and I am an Aunty to a terrific 34 year old nephew who I love dearly and is a NDIS participant. I have walked beside my sister since the day he was born. He has Epilepsy and therefore requires 24/7 support. His life is at risk if he does not have this support!
I have also worked in the disability sector for many years, supporting a participant through a sexual assault court case. Whilst working with several others with NDIS I have seen first hand how good care can give people with disabilities agency over their own life. Having an appropriate NDIS package reduces the amount of hospital admins greatly. In my nephew’s case, it gives him a voice using AAC (Augmented and Alternative Communication).
I oppose the new bill as I have grave fears that the human connection is being eroded as per the intended cuts, leaving the decision making to a robot who does not have the complete context of a person. Even before this Bill, having a relationship with someone that holds your life in their decision making is shut down. I know they are saying with human oversight, but feel extremely vulnerable as the Robodebt debacle.
In my nephew’s case, having a NDIS package has allowed him to be in paid employment, stay connected to his friends and family, and contribute to his community by distribution of donations to the local Day Care Center. He also attends an adult learning group that breaks down things like what is voting, what political parties stand for etc and he takes his civil duties seriously.
Right now we are anxiously awaiting, in fact terrified, to get the result of his Plan Review. We are all holding our breath. The implication to his life will be dramatic if it is cut by half (we have friends that this has happened to).
My sister lives with chronic pain and I fear what will happen if she has to fill the gap if my nephew is not funded appropriately. I live in another city and have Rheumatoid Arthritis so am unable to help out physically.
I believe the Bill in its current form should not be passed by Parliament.
We live in a rich country and if we were to get the correct taxes from the Tech, Mining and Multi Millionaires, by being brave enough to pass a Bill to collect said taxes, we could look after our most vulnerable and valued citizens.
