NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026
I am writing as an extended family member of someone with a significant disability , someone I love deeply, someone whose life has taught me more about strength, vulnerability, and humanity than any policy document ever could. I have watched them navigate a world that is not built for them, relying on support for the most basic parts of daily life. And I have seen how much courage it takes to trust others with that level of dependence.
The NDIS has given them and so many others the chance to live an ordinary life . To have routines that make sense. To build relationships with support workers who understand them. To feel safe in their own home. To be part of the community instead of hidden away from it. These things matter. They are the difference between merely surviving and actually living.
The reforms in this bill frighten me. I know what happens when support is cut, when trusted workers disappear, when people are forced into isolation because the system decides their needs are too expensive or too inconvenient. I’ve seen the anxiety that creeps in when someone realises their stability can be taken away with the stroke of a pen. It is devastating. It is dehumanising. And it is entirely preventable.
I urge the committee to:
Reject cuts to community participation funding because connection is not optional. It is what keeps people hopeful, grounded, and part of the world.
Guarantee meaningful appeal rights because no one should lose essential supports without a fair chance to speak up and be heard.
Preserve genuine choice of providers because trust is personal. The relationships people build with their carers cannot be replaced by a roster or a policy change.

If this bill passes, it will put disabled people at risk. This bill in its current form is harmful and should not be passed by parliament
As a family member, it breaks my heart to think that the progress we’ve made could be undone. We cannot allow people to be pushed back into the shadows. Every person deserves the chance to live with dignity, safety, and belonging.
